Active Directory Location vs Site

The location field of computers in the active directory can give you good insight in the physical location of your clients. If you can trust the information!

Manually held lists are doomed to age and become useless. That's why I build a script to update the locationfield automatically. To use this script it's nessesary that the sites and subnets are properly defined, which is good practice anyway. Use Active Directory Sites and Services to configure your sites.

When your sites and subnets are all in place, you can run the script and you will see that the name of the computer's site appears in the location field.

Download .vbs script: SiteToLocation.zip

Tip: Define this script as a GPO startupscript.
